Cold Steel Smallsword
Original: Circa mid-18th century
Cold Steel has been around in the modern knife world for some time, but it is only within the past few years that they have branched off into historically-based swords. It was out of curiosity that I ordered this smallsword, as the price was reasonable.
This sword is a decent buy considering the price range. The fittings look very modern, though they are still attractive enough. The grip appears to have been wire-wrapped, and then afterwards chrome plated, which looks odd. The general proportions of the sword are relatively good, except that it's slightly larger than typical historical examples. The balance is good, but the sword is a little heavier than necessary, mostly due to a blade that is too thick. Overall this isn't a bad sword, all things considered.
