Angus Trim PS1537 Type XVIIIb Longsword
Original: Circa 15th century
This sword is no longer available but was made by Angus "Gus" Trim and sold through then-retailer, Parting Strike Swords. It has been my main blunt sword for western martial arts use for the past couple of years (and it shows). The sword has just enough blade presence to make it feel natural in the cut, but it still maintains plenty of tip control for the thrust.
Christian Fletcher did the leather and wire-wrapped grip in what he calls his gothic wrap.
This sword was an experimental sword from Gus in which he was creating a blunt for western martial arts use that still maintained the feel of a sword. Some such swords are created with very wide edges for safety, but unfortunately weigh much more due to this. This particular sword has a 1.5 mm edge, an edge that some groups would find too thin. This has been suitable for me in teaching and training, but for fencing with speed and intent a thicker edge would be safer.
