Eric,
Nice looking piece from John!
Since it's a historically-inspired sword, I've moved the thread to the Historical Arms Talk forum.

Wow!!! I love the colors in that hilt. John always knows just how to put that extra bit of visual oomph into all his swords. Congratulations on that one, Eric.
Constant and true.

I do love the color choices John uses in his work. They all have a nice deep rich color that is subdued yet still vibrant. I like it very much.

Thanks Jay thats thuya burl for the pommel and guard with amboyna burl for the grip, makes this sword super light but with a blade presence.

Here are three more quick pics to get the idea of blade profile and length:

I always love it when John makes a gladius. It's a pitty we don't see enough of them. Magnificent swords, and John really did this one right.

That's pretty cool Eric! Sorry, but what does the SPQR mean? I see that quite a bit on Roman stuff.

You can still see SPQR in some surprising places. There was a string of stone covers over what sounded like sewer drains (still in use) near a hotel I stayed in in Rome with SPQR and a date from Tiberias' reign on them ! Our European civil infrastructure is long due for an overhaul !

HI, I'm new to this site, so I may have missed a previous thread on where you purchased that sword.
So... Can I ask where you purchased it, or if you made it, are you selling any?
Thanks
Steve

OK, I am gonna sound stupid here, but I am fairly new, nah I am "new"! LOL. However I have over a dozen pieces from Arms & Armor, I entered this new found boundless fascination of mine with a bang! Who is John? Who made this Roman Sword? How much did it cost? Does it take long to get once ordered?
This is one gorgeous gladius if I ever saw one and I mean every word! STUNNING! Could you give me the website to this artisan? Though I cannot order any more swords until next year or I am going to be walking around with a sword hilt protruding out of my pants via my wife. LOL. However, I did order the last Danish War Axe that Arms & Armor had in stock, due to arrive Monday, hey, but that is not a "sword"! LOL.
Seriously, your new gladius is nothing short of stunning! I'd like to have the website please.
Happy Collecting,
Bob

Whew! I'd hate to be the Greek or Celt/Iberian that ended up on the "business end" of that sucker!
Echoing the rest, I have to say that the hiltwork is absolutely gorgeous.
I also love the blade profile-- it sort of neatly walks the line between the Fulham and Hispaniensis patterns, in my opinion...

A history professor of mine said that when he was in Iran there were still places where you could still see SPQR on ruins, which is essentially the "Official" name of the Roman Empire.

Hi,
I just checked the web site for Odinblades, but the sword isn't there, so does anybody know who is offering that
sword, or a link to their web site.
It's a great sword.
Thanks again.

Steve,
You received the correct link. John Lundemo of Odinblades is a custom smith. Not every piece he's ever made appears on his site. The site just contains samples of his past work but is not all-inlcusive.
It's an Odinblades for sure.
