FOR SALE:

Records of the Medieval Sword by Ewart Oakeshott, Hardcover Edition

Yes! This is a hard-to-find hardcover edition. The hardcover versions are long out of print and quite difficult to find. The softcover editions are horribly bound and always fall apart, creating loose pages every time. This copy is in Near Fine to Excellent condition.

Hardcover, 306 pages, Boydell & Brewer Inc (April 1, 1991), English, ISBN 0851155391, Dimensions: 1.2 x 9.0 x 11.5 inches. As published with its hardcover printed with silver ink and a color print glued in-place.

From the publisher:
An extensive and thorough study of the origins, development and usage of the glamorous two-edged knightly sword of the European middle ages, with a complete typology. Spanning the period from the great migrations to the Renaissance, this book presents a selection from a very large body of photographs and research and gives a full and detailed record of the swords of that turbulent time.

From Chad Arnow at myArmoury.com:
Other of Oakeshott's books contains more text, and therefore more substance, than this one, but it's unrivaled among his books for its photographs. The typologies for blades, pommels, and guards are laid out briefly though the obvious focus is on the swords themselves. It contains many black and white photos of surviving medieval and early renaissance swords, plus line drawings of some whose current whereabouts are unknown. It also includes some articles as appendices which are worth reading. I see this book as a companion to The Sword in the Age of Chivalry, further illustrating the information presented there.

When these can be found, they generally start at around $70. But they're hard to find.

Asking price: $85 + shipping

Is there a dust jacket? If so, what's its condition?

Records was not printed with a dust jacket. It has a hardcover printed with silver ink and a color print glued in-place on the cover. This is how the book was published. It's in "near fine" to "excellent" condition.
