Hi All,
(Bear with me - trying a new image hoster... might not work)
I have for sale (or trade!) a replica of the Father Sword from Conan the Barbarian made by Dave Blue of Barbarian Blades.
Dave hasn’t made anything for quite a few years now, and I don’t think he’s still in business..?
This is one of the few carbon steel replicas out there, with Windlass and Albion being the two others which spring to mind.
Stats:
Weight: 4kg/ nearly 9lbs (Yep, this is not an entirely practical weapon!)
Blade length: 27” (tip to the first tine)
Overall length: 37”
Blade width (at the first tine): 3.5”
Blade width (at three inches from tip): 2”
Hilt:
Solid bronze guard and pommel (not hollow, or painted pot-metal like the Windlass offerings); grip is wrapped with Australian kangaroo hide.
Grip is epoxied, with the guard and pommel reverse-peened and nailed into place. Very solid!
Blade:
Carbon steel but has some faults: scuffs and file/ sharpening marks all the way down it. Also, one side of the blade touches the skull/ jawbone/ guard. But that’s part of the problem with casting such large and ornate hilt furniture. I’ve tried to capture all this in the photos. Someone more adventurous with their sandpaper could probably do it up pretty nicely. Maybe I’m just being lazy…?
Bonus:
Also includes a Certificate of Authenticity from Dave Blue, and a resin casting of the original prop of Thulsa Doom’s standard from the movie (not made by me, I hasten to add – I don’t know how to go about doing that kind of thing!).
Asking:
£500 – considerably less than what it cost new, especially considering postage and customs, etc, from the States, but I think this reflects the finishing seen on the blade. Only looking for purchases within the UK as I hate losing things in transit.
Might also be interested in full or partial trades, but please don’t be offended if what you have doesn’t entice me!
Cheers,
Ant

Forgot I had this on here...!
Still for sale, although it's nice to have an example from an inactive maker in my collection.
Small January sale price drop to £425 too!
Cheers,
Ant
