After much thought, I have decided to sell my late Koto-period (approximately mid-1500's) wakizashi. It is unsigned and has several fukure (forging blisters), but no fatal flaws. It is in old polish, and quite sharp. I had it refitted shortly after I got the blade. The fittings are all Edo period antiques, including the kogatana handle (the blade is a Fred Lohman replica and unsharpened). Blue silk tsukamaki, full samegawa wrap. 21-5/8" nagasa puts it at only a little bit short of katana length. It cannot be attributed to any particular "school" of swordsmiths, but given its general characteristics and size it may be a tabagatana/kazu-uchi-mono - one of the many mass-produced swords made for low-ranking samurai during the Warring States Period which ended with the ascendancy of the Tokugawa shogunate. Asking $750 plus shipping, but no REASONABLE offers will be refused. Paypal (or cash, if you decide to pick it up in person) ONLY!

The tang, by the way, has more patina on it than the photos would indicate, and it has NOT been cleaned in any way (that's a sure way to destroy any chance of estimating the age of the sword, after all). Just came out lousy with my camera, for some reason.

It's still available, folks. Sorry, this is not a papered, NTHK blade, but it IS a real, functional, antique Nihonto. And, as I mentioned in my original post, REASONABLE offers will be considered.
