Hello,
I am new here and restarted a militaria collection since 10 years.
I would have had a very nice collesction of late medieval helmets if I had kept them all, but that is live...
Anyway, I was very thrilled when this helmet appeared, and it was a must have to me.
So here are the pictures and hoping you could tell me if I am right, by saying it is probably a late 17 th century Flemish piqueneer helmet.

Looks pretty good to me. The square rivet plates on the brim look look ok to me

I'd also say that this looks very much like an example in the Dutch army museum Catalogue reference 056251 dated 1630-1650.

Due to your help I managed to find more info and didn't expect this; the helmet was originally found on a flea market near Paris, not by me sadly (!), but it came along with a breast plate.
From the beginning I didn't taught both belonged together until I found this, on;

Wow....Is it the angle of the photo, or do those tassets connected to that breastplate look really massive? They look huge!...McM

Hello,
they are big, but not disproportionate to me.

Anyway here is the brest plate that came along with the helmet.
Check out the small V shapped inlet in the middle, at the lower edge.
That construction looks very similar to the plate showed in the pic's above....what do you think?

Could be from the same area and era. The breastplate in the first photos is heavily riveted. I'm wondering if some of them are more decorative than functional. Seems like an awful lot. WTF?!

The breastplate in the above photo looks almost identical to the one I own. Mine is purely for costume-wear though. Happy

Judging from the large, round dent in the upper chest...looks like it might have taken a musket ball. Big Grin

It did indeed take a musket ball, but for as far as I know this was done to test them.
Strange is that it sits on the opposite side it generally does....(left, and not right as you will see most)

The huge tassets aren't entirely out of place for the 17th century, but they look a little bigger than usual here. Maybe siege armour instead of normal pikeman's field armour?
