Came across an interesting dagger that I thought I might share with you guys. It is from "The Archeology of Weapons Arms and Armour from Prehistory to the Age of Chivalry" By Ewart Oakshott. It is an extremely long dagger or so it looks from the illustration (haven't been able to find any pics on the web of it) Cry Also the dagger is from Oakshott's own collection. The pic is of the page of the book.
Enjoy

Seems like this should go right along with the new "extremely long daggers thread",what a great example!
Wounds of flesh a surgeons skill may heal...

But wounded honor is only cured with steel.

We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.
Each of us should please his neighbor for his good ,to build him up.

Hello Jared,

I stumbled across the same dagger some time ago, see this topic:

http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t...rchaeology

I have not found a lot information on this dagger, nothing online so far. But there are at least two daggers published in Germany with a similar pommel, one in the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin, the other one in the Historisches Museum Bremerhaven (or at least it was before the Second Worldwar, I don´t know if it is still there). Those two daggers are described in an article in a German journal, "Zeitschrift für Historische Waffen- und Kostümkunde", I guess in 1938.
Maybe the Oakeshott Institute www.oakeshott.org knows something of the Dagger in "Archaeology".

Oh, added some pictures of the two Daggers in Germany, depicted in the said journal. Maybe they are of some help.

Regards,

Markus
