I've found a few more copies of this great and rare book. It's Howard Curtis's 2,500 Years of European Helmets. Curtis was a Hollywood stuntman and noted collector of arms and armour. This book was published in 1978. It is chock full of 169 pictures of helms plus period art (yes, I counted Happy ). All kinds of helms are pictured. Here is how the pictures break down:

Period Art: 8
Bronze Age helms: 3
Roman helms: 2
Spangenhelms: 3
Norman helms: 2
Great helms: 15
Bascinets: 11
Great bascinets: 8
Barbutas: 8
Sallets: 23
Armets: 10
Burgonets: 23
Close helms: 19
Jousting helms: 6
Kettle Hats: 10
Morions: 2
Cabassets: 2
Zischagge: 4
Other: 10

Some items are from the now-dispersed Curtis collection, others from famous museums and private collections. It shows a dozen or so great helms from the 13th and 14th centuries, easily the most of any publication I've seen. It's an absolutely fantastic book and one of my favorites. Armourers should have it in their library as should any serious student of armour. It's one of the few books devoted solely to helms and is probably the most picture-intensive out there.

I've posted many pics out of it, including Great Bascinets, a Venetian great bascinet, and early 16th century burgonets.

These copies are basically in as-new shape, which is crazy for a 30-year old book. The dust jackets don't even show much shelfwear. The leather-bound book is immaculate and the gold lettering perfect. It's as if they sat in a box in a corner for the last 30 years.

This book is one of the rarer titles. It was published in 1978 and copies are hard to find these days. When copies can be found, they are often in the $300-400+ range. (there's one out there right now for $303.50)

Asking $219 + s/h each for these rare and much-sought-after book. Money orders accepted, PayPal preferred (please add 3% for PayPal transactions).

Update: only 2 copies left. Below are some notes on condition and pricing.

Copy 1) Immaculate, as new, as described above. Price still $219 + s/h.

Copy 2) Not as good as the person I bought it from led me to believe. It's not in bad shape, but it's not quite as-new. There is minor wrinkling to 2 sections of pages (20 or so pages each). It doesn't obscure the text or images in any way, and would probably be hard to even capture if I took a photo of it. I don't know how they got there. The amount of wrinkling is very (very) slight on most pages. On a few it's more pronounced, but nothing is really creased or badly damaged ever. But I can't sell a very slightly damaged book as new. So, the price is $199 on that one + s/h.

I'll listen to reasonable financial offers for these as well.
