Albion Armorers Sovereign
Original: Circa 1275-1340
The Sovereign is a very quick and powerful sword packed into a small single hander. It is part of the Albion
Next Generation line, and is patterned in the style of an
Oakeshott Type XIV sword. Museums are littered with examples of broad-bladed weapons such as this. If one only had experience looking at these, it would be easy to assume that this is a heavy and slow sword. Quite the opposite, it is very agile without sacrificing heavy cutting ability.
My particular sword is a blunt for western martial arts use. Albion Armorers, when describing this sword, references sword and buckler use from the oldest known fencing treatise, known as
MS I.33, stating that the Sovereign would work well for this style. I have found this to be very true, as the sword feels right at home in the system.
