Museum Replicas Limited Sallet
Original: Circa 1460
The visored sallet was a popular style of helmet in the 15th century. The round surfaces allowed blows to easily slide off. The visor could be worn down for excellent protection at the sacrifice of visibility, or up should the situation necessitate full vision.
This sallet, sold by Museum Replicas Limited, is a reasonably well-made reproduction of an original Northern Italian helmet. It is made of 18-gauge steel with a very thin leather lining. The hinged visor is slightly stiff, yet doesn't always want to stay in place. Even so, the visor is still functional.
