Here's something cool.
A french military sword, used by the French military police in their 3rd republic.
The blade is 32 inches long, and is fairly stiff and has very attractive double fullers, and a decently thick forte. The blade has a definite bias towards the thrust, however that's not to say there's no substance to it. It has a very attractive blade presence and feels like it could deliver a quick cut to exposed spaces on the body. The blade profile tapers gradually to the tip, going from 1 inch at the base to just under 3/8ths inch wide one inch from the tip. The blade has no harsh pitting until the last 1 inch, where there is evidence of old corrosion that has left unfortunately left some pitting.
The grip is a cast brass affair, and while usually I'm not fond of solid brass hilts, this is one exception. The floral and false wiring provides very good grip, and doesn't feel harsh on your hand. The pommel supports the heel of the hand, and the entire grip works to give a secure grip when held in open grip. In an unfortunate event, the flip guard has broken off, however the entire assembly of the hilt (pommel, gip, guard block and guard section) remains completely tight. The engraving is very nicely done, and there us no shortage of details, however a century and a half (or near enough so) have rubbed down the detail somewhat. There is also a small crack in the top of the knuckle bow, however this does not spread to the other side.
