Hello everyone, I would like to present a fantastic never used piece from the famous James Elmslie.
He created an Oakeshott type XV.
This piece is based on French and German styles from about 1400, +/- 10-15 years.
James stated that it’s an experiment testing the precision of forging based on the principles of geometric construction, from Peter Johnssons' published hypotheses, in "The Noble Art of the Sword", and " Das Schwert: Gestalt und Gedanke". As such the entire hilt was designed from a blade using compass, and a rule.
The characteristics of this piece can be found underneath:
Overall length, 935mm (36 3/4" )
Blade Length: 740mm (29 1/4" )
Blade Width at cross: 49mm (1 7/8ths")
Cross width 185mm ( 7 3/16" )
Weight: 970g (2.1lbs)
Point of Balance: 85mm ( 3 1/2")
I’m willing to sell the sword for 1200 pounds.
