This image is from Paul Dolnstein's sketchbook. My question is about the figure on the left. How might the weapon in his hands have been made?

He is a Swedish peasant fighting in 1502 in a rebellion against Danish rule. Many other peasants in this rebellion also carried a sort of pike made from a shorter sword affixed to a staff. There is no evidence of the kind of pin system that held a halberd head to the staff.
