These are hardbound editions of James Mann's 1962 2-volume catalogues of the arms and armour of the Wallace Collection. The most commonly available editions are paperback that were pretty cheaply printed. These are bound in a green leather (possibly leatherette) and have gold lettering on the spine. Volume 1 is Armour, Volume 2 is arms. Each item is described and has statistics listed. Most are also pictured in photographic plates at the end of each book (104 plates in volume 1 and 208 in Volume 2). There are over 900 pages of text between the two books, not counting the 300+ pages of images.
The condition of these is pretty typical of books from the early 1960s. There is age spotting to the page edges (visible from the outside). Volume 1 has a clear green plastic wrap over the entire cover. While that's protected the outside beautifully, the cover was taped on. The tape has peeled and left some discoloration. One page near the front appears to have torn along part of the binding and looks to be a binding defect. The page is not loose, but I wouldn't go tugging on it. No marks on the text and all the text is readable. These books have lasted many years and will last many more.
I just looked around online and hardbound versions of this set go from $103-$165+. These are great sources of info after all.
