This listing has been REMOVED and is no longer active
I hate to let this one go but the sheet metal shear in the shoppe is on its last legs so our loss is some ones gain. This vintage reproduction German basket hilt was made by Luther Sowers in 1978 and is a reproduction of the 17th century basket hilt on page 85 of " Arms and Armor in Colonial America 1526-1783".
For those who don't know Luther Sowers started making reproduction arms and armour in the 1960's both for Hollywood and re-enactment use. He has done a great deal of work of the US parks service especially on the east coast for thier LH interpreters at the various early colonial era forts/park they maintain. He was featured in Smithsonian Magazine in the early 90's.
Comes with the leather scabbard Luther made for it w/ the addition ( by me ) of a leather cap on the tip as the leather had worn through, and the attachment of two suspension rings for the belt. There is a partial crack in the weld on one side of the guard ( shown in the close up pic). Came that way and i've never messed with it as it didn't detract from the sword at all for me.
Asking $300.00 plus shipping. PM me with any questions.
