I have been looking through this site for tips from Nathan on how he gets these spectacular sword photographs, and have found lots of great information.
I was just sort of wondering what type of equipment people are using for their sword photos, and what their experiences are, in respect to sword pictures only?
Something like this:
Camera - Canon elph S110 2 megapixel
Cost - about $250 nowadays
Strengths - outdoor pictures in real sunlight without flash from about 2 feet back are acceptable; saturates colors to look better than real life
Problems - indoor pictures need lots of light; does not do close-ups very well, the photographer, not macro lens..
Reason for this is that, as Nathan and others have shown on this board, sword photography is an art in itself that I would like to improve in, and continue to admire. That is basically why I started visiting myArmoury, and why I keep coming back.
I have noticed that Nathan's desktop backgrounds are responsible for shifting my tastes away from chinese / japanese swords and more into European swords. With this has come an interest in the history, and the articles on this site.. The term "gateway drug" pops into mind..
