I was recently browsing the excellent photo albums here at myArmoury.com when I came across this strange and massive sword. was it an executioner's tool? a ceremonial piece? I'd be happy for any more information on this beast of a sword (see attached picture)

I think this thing has been discussed before and the final consensus was that it's a large pie knife...

It looks more like one of those cake knives that you slide under the cut piece to bring it out intact.

It is a May Day butter and pastry knife. With one well placed sweep of the blade you can ice an entire feast table full of cup cakes.
Honest, I read about it on some list that had a dead link to a site that could have linked me to the article about it.

Definitely a cake knife Dan. My Aunt has a similar item, only hers is much smaller.
