but Swedish is not something I have much of a clue about......mabye Elling Pollen or someone can identify this helm,,,,I assume its from the Vasa ship ? I certinally have never seen it or anything like it before.......perhaps I should buy more books ! Is there any other Armour associated with this helm or is it a solo piece ?
Thanks !

Hi Merv,
I don't know wich kind of helmet this is (only that it is was worn by Gustav Eriksson Wasa), but I do know reading this article will not help much. The article is a short summary of Gustav Eriksson Vasa and the Vasa families lifes. The helmet is not mentioned.
I find it very hard to belive that this helmet comes from the wasa ship. More likely it is a part of the royal armoury of stockholm.
Regards,
/Ville

Thanks ! Wow...that certinally is a bigger photo ! Much better ! Do you or anyone else have any other interresting pics of Swedish harness ? I dont seem to find much on-line available from Swedish museums......at least not like the Met. museums' photo section. My good friend.....( writter of the cartoon series "The Swamp " ) gets to travel all over Sweden and Germany...and hes not even into medieval history ! Mabye I'll get to see some of these things myself on day, God willing. Meanwhile, I value all info and photos that I can see.................so thanks !

I have a few pics of a harness which belonged to Gustav Vasa, and some of harnesses which belonged to his sons, which I took during a visit to the royal armoury. I'll see how well I can get the attachment function to agree with me here...
The ships was named after the Royal House btw, Gustav II Adolph (who ordered it built) being Gustav Vasa's grandson.

First some more of the "old man's" suit then one pic of a pair of suits which belonged to his sons (if I recall correctly, the one in the background would be for Erik XIV, and the pone in the foreground originally made for duke Magnus, later refitted for a shorter person, believed to be Johan III), and finally two pics of a harness commissioned by Erik XIV.
EDIT: seems the preview flipped the order of the photos, but the submitted version didn't, or some such. Maybe just me mixing things up. Anyway, the order of the photos seems to have been reversed.
