This past week-end the traveling Va. Ren-faire came to Salem, Va (again) Our local group (Roanoke Valley Sword Guilde)
had a tent there and provided a display of mostly vintage & a few reproduction swords. Plus we did cutting demos/history presentations thru the day. The crowds were great, the weather great.... a good time for all. So here are some pics from both days. Unfortunately forumite,friend and group member Chris Goerner could not attend...missed ya' . Also RVSG -bladesmith Will Goodwin showed off his new creation.....eyes - ears open basket heads....this sword is up for sale (PM me if interested and I'll put you in contact with Will).

Thanks for sharing. It looks like a fun time! Will's basket hilt looks great--the blade looks quite broad. How prolific is he? I think the only other sword I have seen by him is the thistle proto mortuary. Can you describe the sword being held in the fifth photo from the top?

That's my son Evan with his Hanwei/CASI Dark Sentinel. A fun sword and great milk jug slayer.

Will G. just gets better and better with each piece. He make more daggers,dirks,knives than anything
due to the size of his forge & shop.

Sorry I had to miss this event Looks like you had a nice display put together. I ran into Will at the Salem Gun Show and got to see that baskethilt. His work is getting better all the time.

Thanks for posting these pictures. Looks like you had a great weekend!

That broadsword looks very interesting I really like the blade! The original broad, three fullered "Grosse Schotten" looks as if they mean serious business, and this one certainly captures that look!

I like the hilt as well. The overall design and the "simple" decoration states that it's made for serious fighting by a warrior rather than slinging from the hip in its' scabbard all through the battles! I like the way the guards terminate by the pommel; a different and interesting feature.

Will seems to understand how a basket hilted sword should look My compliments!

Awesome, Bill! I wish I had more time these days to come check these things out, but work just keeps me too busy. (Bah, listen to me whine as if I had a real job!) And Will's baskethilt really does look fantastic!

Think I only have one more pic of Will's sword. The grip is ray-skin...the blade he fashioned from an old cross-cut saw
blade and is the same thickness and has the same flex as the original he patterned it after that belongs to other group member Gary. Other specs I don't have as to why I would put any interested parties in contact with Will for further details.
