I was browsing the MRL website when I ran nto the history of the coustille, sort of shrt sword disguised as a dagger.

Yeah I picked this deadly lil sword big dagger for 99 bucks at a store near me some months ago and my wife picked out it's little brother the medieval sword hilted dagger with the 14 inch blade, which compliments the 17 inch blade of this dagger. It is to my understanding that in many towns swords were bannished due to drunked sword fighting that 18 inches of blade constituted a sword so the 17 inch Coustile was arrived at. Now I could be wrong on this, but in any case it's a nice piece to add to the collection, although you will need to sharpen it up. Also, I don't care much for the laquer finish on the MRL products so I always take it off, so far by a sanding process but I suppose you could use laquer thinner.
I'd recheck what I've said here with those of higher knowledge on the website.

I was wondering wethere we have iconographic sources of actual coustilles, apart from this MRL reconstruction I was unabl to find pics of originals or lluminated manuscripts showing them.
Given that the short blade I'm making is 49 cm long it could be classified as a coustille, but I'm looking for good style references.
It seems that apart from oekeshott's words we have not much more.
