Thanks Mac. I don't think I'd put those up with Vinces work in terms of overall quality. Still, they have a very nice authentic look to them and appear to be of high quality.

Thanks for that pic Mac. I'd love to see Vince to something like that. I like the idea of the horn and ivory in the hilt.

Aye, with a nice damascus blade, pierced spine, and gold inlay :-)
Here's a blowup of that blades armourer mark & running wolf, Mac

I'd be curious to see a fully carved grip by Glenn ? Anyone seen an example ? Mac

Hi Patrik
I would not hazard a guess as to what the longest Scottish dirk measured in at, as there are far far too many that I've not seen ? Alot were fitted with broken, or cutdown, sword blades which tended to increase the length as well.
I measured a few in the reserve collection that pushed the 21" inch mark, overall, with their blades being in the 15-16" range, but I'm sure there are longer examples that I did not get to play with! On average, though, these ones were (what I feel) at the long end of the classic Scot dirk spectrum. (any much longer and your getting into a short sword deal ;-)

Oooh!!!
George, that dirk must be awsome! How many dirks do you have in your collection???!
Does anyone of you have any pics of a early dirk in its' scabbard? I would love to see how it looks, since I will within a few days start sewing a scabbard for first homemade dirk!!! I've actually come so far now that I'm done staining the grip and now it's soaking in linseedoil!
What about scabbard materials? I'm using brass and thick (3mm) leather, whcih I will tool with some lines and saltire crosses... Is this a historical option? Or were leather covered wood scabbards more common?
Cheers,
Henrik
