Hi
I just joined the forum, and read through a few articles and reviews and stuff, but either I missed any articles on how the Roman's fought, or I'm one of the few who actually think that their techniques are interesting.
Can anybody help me out with any references to a site, a book or anything that can help me learn more about them. Or a company that sells wooden or training kits?
I'm located in South Africa, and well, there aren't any people here that truly think Western Martial Arts is worth anyone's time.
Thank you.
If you injure me....and I survive, I will kill you. This is the way of honour.

There are several books I've read that trace Roman army development throughout its existence. I would recommend John Warry's Warfare in the Classical World, Peter Connolly's Greece and Rome at War, and Fighting Techniques of the Ancient World. All of these contain discussions of armies other than those of Rome, but I found the other parts useful and interesting as well. I would highly recommend Connolly's book, since it talks about just about everything--tactics, army structure, camps, and it has highly detailed pictures and discussion of equipment as well.

I just realized that by the Roman style of fighting you probably mean man-to-man, and not the army as a whole. In that case, these books probably won't help you too much, except for maybe Connolly's book. Sorry about that.

Renier,
Hello and welcome to myArmoury.com. Please don't assume that a lack of articles on a particular topic means a lack of interest. It usually means simply that no one has yet volunteered to write on a topic.
