Hello everyone,

Just a couple of quick questions.

I ordered my first sword a few weeks ago. ( I arrive home every day hoping to find a white box waiting on my table!) I am wondering if anyone knows a maker of historical correct Roman scabbards, and baldrics? What is a reasonable asking price for such an item?

Thank you,

Michael A. White

Ave!

Have to compliment your wisdom of a Roman sword for your first sword! I believe Christian Fletcher is Albion's recommended scabbard maker,

http://www.christianfletcher.com/

He may very well be able to make the scabbard without having your sword to work from, but ask him about that. My own Legio XX page on the gladius may help some,

http://www.larp.com/legioxx/gladius.html

Matt Lukes in Canada is also doing excellent work, which you can see in the Marketplace section of the Roman Army Talk board,

http://www.romanarmy.nl/rat/

I don't know what these gents are charging for scabbards, since I make my own. (And unfortunately I don't make them for folks outside my own group.) Obviously the price will vary a lot depending on how decorated it is. Plain ones are perfectly acceptable though they still have their fiddly construction features.

I hope that helps! Best of luck, and Vale,

Matthew/Quintus, Legio XX

I used to own a Albion Pompeii w/o a scabbard.

I bought a cheap Deepeeka gladius on e-bay (came with a scabbard) for $30.

I did some customization and made the scabbard fit my gladius, and was able to use the deepeeka scabbard parts as a guide to create my own parts out of brass...turned out OK. If you want something special I would suggest the people that Matt suggested, also you may want to check with Russ Ellis (he is often on this forum...I don't know his website currently) to see if he has "Roman-ized" his offerings!
