Jap Petersens typology is published in his original work:
"De Norske Vikingesverd" printed in 1919
As far as I know there has been no reprint of this work, nor has it been translated to English.
It covers axes, spear heads, swords and "ringers", outlining development and contemporarity. A solid good work, even if his classification at times is a bit limiting when applied to the whole international material of viking swords as it is written from a strickly Norwegian perspective.

Petersen only classifies hilts, not blades; This because a large portion of the swords found have missing or damaged blades...

Isn't it Petersen's typology that is shown in Pierce's book Swords of the Viking Age? I can't remember right off hand (man I need to go look at that book again) but I think it is. Someone with the book to hand confirm or correct if you would... As mentioned this book covers only hilt types not the spears and axes and so forth afther all it is called Swords of the Viking Age...

Yes, Petersen's Typology is explained in Swords of the Viking Age, along with Oakeshot's Typology of the Viking Swords. There's also some examples of Petersen's Typologies not only of the sword but also of the axe and spear in the Osprey book Viking Hersir.
