Just noticed that A&A has added a few new items to their website, a northern Italian rapier, an early Venetian rapier, and an Italian flavoured practice sword. They also have new rapier practice blunts that look very interesting.

Cool! Wait until Bill Grandy sees that Lombardy Rapier and the new Nail Practice blades. I have a feeling that he's going to be making some nice new purchases right after Christmas.

The Serenissima (great name!) Rapier seems remarkably similar to the already existing Venetian Rapier. I must be overlooking something. Tell me what I missed.

I have to admit I thought the same thing. Despite some minor differences in dimensions and what appear to be cosmetic difference with the pommel I don't really see much difference. Perhaps Craig or someone can come along and explain.

The Italian practice sword. I needed this! My sparring partners all have the Fechtbuch. It's their turn to be envious now.

Oh, I already had plans on the nail rapier blade... saw one of those at WMAW...
But that Lombardy rapier is NICE....
(ugh, and seeing that "in stock" list is NOT what I need right now!)

In a 10-second side-by-side of the pictures, they do certainly look like womb-mates - only the pommels look different.
I'm a bit curious about the listed statistics... the blade on the Serenissima is 0.75" shorter and a tiny bit narrower than on the Venitian, but the overall length is like 3 inches shorter? This sounds odd, unless the hilts are drastically different and I'm really being decieved by something...
I do like the look of the new blunts, though...

Thanks for all the compliments folks.
The Serrenissima Rapier will be replacing the Venetian in the product line. The Venetian has been around a long time and is an item that we felt could be better so we dicided to work from a better set of details we had and do this sword. I did not realize I had forgotten to deal with the Venetian coming down off the site untill this mornning.
Aaron I think the Venetian Measurments might be off on the site. Anyway I just remeasured the Serenissima last night to double check it.

Ahhh ha! There we have an explanation. Also... all around the world the selling price of Venetian rapiers just went up...  Or down... depending on if you are a dedicated collector or not.

Aw, man, I really like the Venetian aesthetically! I've never gotten to handle one, though. Funny, it's one that I used to think was rather ordinary, but over the past year or two I kept looking at the picture and really began to admire it, especially the really cool quillon block.
I'm curious, Craig, how will the Serrenissima and Venetian compare in the handling compartment?

The Serenissima will be a bit quicker in the hand and have a little less weight. The dynamics are pretty good and it will lay down a nice cut for a blade this narrow.

Well the 168 Three Ring and the 212 Lombardy are relatively close to each other in size. There will be a touch of difference in feel to each but I have not had them side by side as yet to compare myself. They are both very classic North Italian types and two we have always liked. The Lombardy has actually been on our lets make this list for quite sometime and when we sat back and looked over the rapiers decided we best get off our butts and do it as we liked it so much. It is the type of thing a well-bred man of means could swagger down the street on a sunny Italian morning, as well as put that know it all at the Salle in his place with a well placed thrust or cut. Then drinks and conversation with ones companions in the afternoon. Actually sounds nice enough anyone want to set the date.
I will try to compare them side by side as soon as possible and let you know.
