Ive come across this company a few times and figured them rather cheap, but im starting to take interest in the Swiss Halberd. It looks nice, doesnt have the antique look to it, but its made from 1050 steel and ash pole so it seems very sturdy? Ive seen it in price anywhere from 105 to 175. Whats the deal with this thing? Is it all that great and just cheap cuz it doenst look authentic?
Thanks

Ok here is what I know, Cold Steel makes good knives as for there Axe, hatchet and spears they are so so for stuff that comes out of China and Taiwan. I own the battle axe, the Norse axe and the "african" spear ( I forget the name) so far the axes have held up quite nicely and the spears are fun to through... as for why they are cheap I do not know but I will tell you this for the $ they are not bad if you are going to use them and not have to worry to much about hurting the blades, heck the handles are worth more then what I paid for the axes alone... My advice search Ebay for lowest prices and a "good" seller and try it out.

I could be wrong here, but i always thought they were cheep because they are made using more modern techniques. The main reason i think that is that they LOOK like modern wood axes etc. just a guess though. if someone know the correct reason, id love to know it.

Some of their spears are stamped out of sheet steel and although functional don't even try to look historic.
O.K. to play with or hunt I guess but nothing much to look at. I like their original Tanto series and a lot of their folders.
Different products with different expectations for the product: Nothing wrong with that as long as you are not looking for something that looks period in style or materials or construction.
