A while ago I fell in love with the swiss sabre ... first the early types and later the spectrum of different designs from the plain early ones to the extremely decorated later ones. I contacted the finnish sword smith JT Palikko and he agreed to make a swiss sabre for me. It isn't entirely based on a single historical sabre but ended up a mix of two with a big twist of JT on top :-)

Here are two pictures that JT sent me (that made my jaw drop)!

Length: 1,15 meters

Soren, I love that saber. Tell me, is the false edge sharpened? I have had thing for these swords for a few years now. It is too bad that custom is the only way to get one currently. Peter Johnson has said he would like to recreate some of these but his plate is quite full.

This is probably no surprise to you, but I absolutely love that piece! This is one of those elusive sword types that I've been unable to have made for me. I'll keep trying, though. I truly am envious. What a fantastic piece!

Aaron: When I approched JT I sent him the swiss3.jpg and he was very hesitant at the beginning because he thought it would be too hard to make so he suggested the Sabre_1530 (from ”Hieb-und Stichwaffen”).

David: About the false edge I don't know if its sharpened and haven't had the time to ask. I think it is and will let you know when I get it. It should ship to me shortly after the 15th.

I appreciate seeing the pics of the inspiring pieces. I can definitely see some elements of each in your sword. I'm still quite intrigued by the floral motif - as Patrick so properly called it - "understated" but very well executed.
