My new Ringhilt has arrived,
Rob Miller,CastleKeep, Excellent Guy. 
Happiness comes in a sword shaped box,
31" blade,
weighs,2pounds4ounces,
Blade-En45 steel,58 rockwell,
handle,Ebony withSilver wire wrap,4nhalf inches long,
Pommel,1 and 3quarter inches,
pob 6" from point of guard,
cop, 9-10" from point,
Distal taper, 5mm at guard 4mm at centre of blade,3mm towards the point,
28" fuller Niceley done clean lines half inch wide,
blade width at guard 2",
Blade width at end of fuller1",
No ripples to blade polish anywhere,
Excellent finish throughout,
Price inc scabbard and belt,.. Rob Miller,CastleKeep,Isle of Skye...............

Mr Miller makes quite a bonnie sword, doesn't he? This is going to get expensive. I keep running across all these great weaponsmiths...

Oh very nice. Now the question I have, what typically was the blade type on an Irish ring hilt? Anyone know?

That looks nice. I'm not usually a big fan of Irish swords because I rarely like the looks of the guards. This is one of the exceptions. I like the curves and proportions better than most. The Celtic knotwork on the pommel is a nice touch, too.

Hi Patrick,
The other sword is a Deltin 5144 blade with hilt package from John at Whiterose Armoury in England,
He's done alot of work for museum's and the like over here, p,o,b on that is an inch from the guard, though it weigh's in around a pound heavier than the sword Rob made,
The ringhilt i think has this one beat,
But in fairness to John i've seen his work with his own blades and he is also very good,
Sorry Russ, cant say for sure,Gus may have his suspicions,congrats by the way on your new AA one,very cool, do you have anything special planned scabbard wise,pics i hope,

Of all the origionals Ive seen there really is no standard blade type I can descern. The swords all have the ring and the guards are preactically always S shaped to soem degree but size and blade type wise there is little in common between the surviving swords. There are photos in my ring hilt thread on this forum.

The ironic thing is that I rarely get to make scabbards for my own swords. I may have to consider the idea though, theres some rather fanciful things Irish to be worked with.
