Hey all, just a quick question. Have any of you seen evidence for butt caps or spikes on sparth axes or early bardiches? I have a head I'll be mounting soon, and my research didn't really turn up any info on the subject. None of the museum pics I found showed the butt of the haft at all, and the descriptions make no mention of either. Of course, many, if not all of them, may have been re-hafted at some point.

Thanks in advance,
Alan

I've wondered the same - have an early halberd I need to mount, but it didn't come with a buttcap.

Wild speculation here, but maybe you might see the extra effort on a "knightly" or "noble" weapon, specifically commissioned, versus a "munitions" weapon made for the masses. Hopefully someone has some insight on the matter.
