Hello all,
Over the past two years I have embarked on a Lovino project: getting a pair of sword and dagger inspired by Lovino's manuscript. The result was a great pair of weapons by the famous Marco Danelli, which I describe in details here:
Making it real
It is not a reproduction of a specific sword, but all the elements can be traced back to Lovino's context. It is a great approximation of what Lovino's weapons could have been!
I had great fun researching everything about this project, and I have also made several articles detailing all the elements I have found. Hopefully others can find inspiration here!
Best Regards,

Very interesting. The sword looks particularly nice in full view. I've never heard of Renaissance swords with full-metal grips before. How are they made, and are they solid or hollow?

I have a few more examples in one of the previous posts about this project. I'm afraid I can't really tell you about the specific making methods or their properties, as I've never seen a disassembled example. I think they are generally hollow (Marco did them hollow at any rate). A solid metal handle would be far too heavy and mess up the sword's balance. One of the examples is even see-through, looking like 4 stripes of metal joined in the middle.

The 'Moorish' backsword in the Met (Object Number: 14.25.1169) has a steel handle https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/22366 A.V.B. Norman talks about them somewhere.
