Thanks to the great picture taking of Ron Luciano , and the ever observant eye of Vince Evans, my custom 'Diamond' -hilt backsword
will soon have a few more zig-zags, added to it's pommel !
While studing the many great pic's Ron took , zooming in, and blowing up various areas, Vince discovered
'ol Walter Allan had actually detailed his Diamond-hilt's pommel with those little 'wiggle' lines, too !
*Here's a blow up of the pommel area , on the original WAS, residing at The Museum of Scotland, that clearly shows them!
*Photo : Ron Luciano
Since Vince had included all the zig-zags (wiggle lines) etc., that he originally could see, on the basket ,he felt that it
was only right to add them to the pommel, too , and offered to do them for me, if I sent him the pommel !
Well off came the pommel, and out to the Arizona Highland smithy it went ......
Here are a couple of "before" scans of my Diamonds pommel ..... and I'll post up a few "after" scans, once they are added, upon it's return !
It's these little historical details that really do it for me, and I can't wait to see them added .....
The very fact that Vince would bring this to my attention, offer to add them, shows his great passion for the things he creates
(or in this case re-creates ;-), and his luv for what he does !
Thanks Vince .... and thanks to Ron, too ! Cool stuff , Mac

Thanks for the pics Mac.
It's great to see a maker have that kind of passion for his work. A lot of people would have just put something like that into the "next time" catagory. Not Vince, he's a class act!

Nice!
It's amazing how much those little details add to a sword.

Hi Guys
It is amazing how important these little details can be, to the overall look of a piece !
I've always felt that basket-hilt pommels were a little pice of art unto themselves, and that they really "top off"
(pun intended ;-) a swords hilt !
No moss grows on Master Evans ..... the man gets things done ! Mac

One point to note :
Vince told me he spent about an hour on the pommels modifications, and went on to say :
"Believe it or not, I didn't just add the zigzag lines. Grace ( Vince's wife & partner) pointed out that Walter had bevelled the edges of the panels before he put the zigzags in."
So naturally Vince went the distance, too ! Good eye, Gracie *g* Kudos to both of you ! Mac
