I took delivery of this beautiful beast earlier this week. It's one of Tod's custom Wallace Collection Rondel Daggers (as opposed to the Tod Cutler version). I have always loved this dagger, but hadn't fully appreciated how complex it is until Tod did his 3-video series on it (go watch them if you haven't!).

Here are some quick pics. I'll post more thoughts later and will do a full review at some point. First impressions: what a great piece that captures all the details of a very unique original. Happy

What’s crazy to me is that the blade is over 1/2 an inch thick at the base. That’s nuts. Happy.

Over .5”? Mine is only 3/8. Now I’m sad.😢

Seriously though of my 4 rondels from Tod’s Workshop or Tod’s Stuff the Wallace is the one I’d pick for a serious fight.

Yep, about .52 inches or just over 13mm. Is yours a Tod Cutler version or the Tod's Workshop version?

This thing is definitely not a genteel indoor costume accessory weapon. Happy

Mine is from Tod’s Workshop.
I think that mine was the model for the pics on the web site.

Thanks Chad and glad you love it and Lloyd glad you love your skinny one too.

The correct thickness is just over 13mm which is a crazy thick blade and not sure why yours should be that much thinner Lloyd. My guess would be that I made it for stock and had a piece of 10mm that was a suitable size and used that and if it is a stock item then I don't mind changing some dimensions. So I will make the assumption it was not a custom order and if it was I have no idea what happened, whoever at 10mm I am still pretty sure it will be robust.

I have always loved this dagger for a few reasons and its sheer unapologetic size in length and thickness has to be a large part of that.

Enjoy!

It was custom but no worries, it was more than 5 years ago as I recall. It’s not like I ever held it in my hand and said this isn’t beefy enough.

Just for fun, here are some comparison pics. The first shows the 2 rondel daggers currently in my collection. Both are historically sized, but from different ends of the size spectrum (and a good 50+ years apart in time).

The second shows the Wallace Rondel with another piece by Tod, the Spiderweb Quillon Dagger. Before the Wallace rondel, this was the thickest single-edged blade I'd owned at ~.3 inches/~7.55mm. The thickness of the Wallace rondel dagger is staggering by comparison.

Having pictures with context makes an enormous difference.

Something showing the Wallace in-hand or with a relatively known quantity (one of the Albion XVa swords, for example) would also be helpful.

I never realized just how large that piece was, and while I'm not very familiar with the smaller rondel you have for comparison, I do believe I have a lower end piece of similar size and blade profile that allows me to visualize this better.
