The new Long Sword XVIIIc - "Totentanz"
I wanted to present you the effect of our work on a new project of a custom sword, which we named Totentanz.
It's a term from middle ages, which means "The Dance of the Death". It was a ceremony which was reminding people
that everyone is equal when we face the death itself. The blade is 74mm wide and 89cm long. It's is astonishingly sharp.
The blade is 6mm thick near the crossguard and is temptering to its tip. The sharp lines on the crossguard add to the nobility of the sword.
The pattern on the scabbard is based on a floral embroidery from medieval times. It is sculpted in leather by hand and painted afterwards.
Total lenght: 117,5cm
Blade lenght: 89cm
Blade width at the base: 74mm
Thickness of blade (at the base): 6mm
Weight: 1725g
Balance: 10cm
Grip lenght: 22cm
Edge is sharp
Full functional, made with high quality steel 51CrV4 (6150),
Hardened 54HRC

Wow-- such a long, broad blade looks like it could lop off a head or two!
There have been many renditions of the "Armory of Alexandria" swords in recent years, but I like how you included a variation of that cross type that is deeper and more pointed at the center. That "bolder" cross neatly compliments the lines & proportions of the blade, in my opinion!
"Rhaegar fought nobly.
Rhaegar fought valiantly.
Rhaegar fought honorably.
And Rhaegar died."

This is our first video about the process on the leather for medieval scabbard. It is the scabbard for a longsword type XIIa - you will see some pictures soon, when the project is ready on my facebook page. I can only say that now Kasia is working on the nice similar, but smaller scabbard for the dagger. I hope that you will like this video 🙂. If yes, we will be very happy to see your comment. You can also click the subscribe button to see more of our films from our swords\leather workshop and already done projects.
