Hi all very new to the list and am very impressed with what I have seen so far!
I am looking for a good picture or two of a carbine known as a Littlecote type. I am trying to build one
but with only guesstimeted proportions I am having some trouble.
Cheers all!

Lord, that's a tougher question than I would have thought! I did a google search, and all I turned up was some of the reproductions for sale, and those aren't all that hot, IMHO. I think that the pictures that Rod Walker posted of his are about as good as you're going to get, unfortunately! I assume you've seen this thread, then?

You should be able to get a good idea of the size based on the comparison with the sword.
From what I have seen, they tend to be of rather large bore (most of the repops being of .75" like Rod's). Pretty large for a 17th Century Carbine, which were usually between .62" and .66", but I haven't seen the particulars on the Littlecote. However, since the the reproductions ALL seem to be of .75", it's a reasonable guess to think that the originals were of similar bore.
I'll try to dig up some pictures of the original though, and post them. But hopefully Rod will chime in with his comments!
Cheers,
Gordon

Gideon;
You might try Syke's Suttlery, here's their firearm's page. They have a fairly broad variety of stuff, including a version of the Littlecote Carbine that might be of interest. Unfortunately, it, like their other flint-ignited arms, use a modified French lock that is just too darned small to look right. Their Fishtail Butt Carbine otherwise looks GREAT, so one might contact them about using a separate lock, or do as Rod did, use a Brown Bess, or better yet a Charleville lock on it. Here's the link:

I thought I'd throw in a pic of their version of the Littlecote for comparison with Rod's...
Good luck to you!
Cheers,
Gordon

I finally received my Snaphaunce Lock from The Rifle Shoppe, and it's pretty darned nice! I waited until they had a built one on EBay, and bought it that way, since I had heard too many horror stories of waiting forever for anything from them. But I have to say that they express mailed it out to me, ASAP, so I'll testify to their prompt attention to my order!
The piece is well made from smooth, well polished castings, nicely put together and it sparks like an SOB! Set your clothes on fire! Ignites the priming fast, too, though with the throw on this thing I wouldn't suggest that it's a "Fast" lock! But it looks to be an efficient, reliable one, which is all that I ask of it.
Anyway, here's a picture from their catologue of the lock... BIG! The lockplate is almost ten inches across! Definitely for a Musket, but it's going on a Carbine, since I already have a nice little 20-bore barrel ready just for it. Now to scrounge up the wood for a stock...
Anyway, I know most of you guys are more into somewhat simpler weapons but I though this might be of interest.
Cheers!
Gordon

Thanks! Of course I only have a few hundred hours of work left to have a shootable piece... or at least it will seem like it!
Oh, BTW, the fellow I corresponded with at The Rifle Shoppe a few months ago said that they were doing a run of these locks, so there's the possiblility that he has some more in the completed stage. Worth an email to find out, at least. Here's their site: http://www.therifleshoppe.com/ Lots of cool stuff there, to be sure.
Good luck on this!
Cheers!

VERY cool snaphaunce lock Gordon!
Every time I see a finished item, weapon or lock, from The Rifle Shoppe I'm ready to place an order with them. Then I read another sad tale about years-long wait times and poor customer service... your method of looking for a finished item may very well be the way to go!
Please let us know how your carbine is progressing.
Thx,
Kevin
