Hello folks.

During these last couple of years I got more and more interested in XVth century Italian armour, and decided that it was time for some amateurish collection of all known depictions of armour in the Italian peninsula.

I'm more interested in what armour was used in Italy itself, so I excluded the foreign depictions of export suits and such.

So the pictures are put in chronological order and numbered progressively. At the end of all the pictures there is an Excel sheet with all the information regarding each image, such as date, author, region, etc...

I decided to go from 1410 to 1510 because that's when the "typical Italian" suit exists, with pauldrons worn over the rerebrace, cuirass with plackart, etc... I know it's a bit of an arbitrary choice, but I found it easier to give myself a restriction so I could be more focused in the research.

Moreover they are also divided by region (in the lower tabs of the spreadsheet), to see if and which trends each major region had and how the differed from one another.

Please enjoy.

Here's some eye candy, the kind of things you'll find in the file =).

Thanks for the collection and what a whopping great mace Guerino is carrying.

Was the engraving of Guerino dit Meschino used to make prints and thus mirrored or was this man a lefty as shown by the arret?

Frankly I'm a bit puzzled d by that one, because the arret is in the wrong place yes, but the name on the right is not mirrored, so I wouldn't really know...

The copy of this drawing in a book of 1867 by Duplessis (curator at the BNF) about costume shows it "mirrored", or in the logical side.
