I'm looking for any information in regard to crafting bokkens, be it personal experiences, websites, etc. Also, any tips on wood carving, or selection of timber. If anyone has even built a home-made steambox for bending wood I would like hear how it went. Big Grin

Well you might give Kim Taylor a call.

I have been meaning to call him up and have a new piece made, but have been rather busy. I have heard lots of good stuff though over the years about his work..

The pen is mightier than the sword, especially since it can get past security and be stabbed it into a jugular.
This site would be better if everytime I clicked submit... I got to hear a whip crack!

Kim does very nice work, I have two naginata shafts that were made by him, from North American white oak that is so close to Japanese white oak, that its almost impossible to tell the difference. wonderful grain structure, and good shaping to the shafts. very nice stuff, at a very good price - especially for use Americans who get the benefit of the Canadian exchange rate..

I can't recommend him highly enough.

The only problem I had is that I ordered when Canada was having the SARS scare, and that put him way behind schedule, and I can't blame him for that... it took even longer since I told him once it started, to just put it to the back burner and catch up on other orders first, since I was in no hurry..

I'd definitely order from him if I needed anything custom, and he also gave me a good amount of woodworking tips...

first class all the way.
