Here are initial results of a long term project I've been working on... I've been in love with the Highland 'beaked ribbon hilt' for a long time and have slowly been tinkering with putting together a template for one. I'm ALMOST happy with this one. I think I'm on the right track with the overall volume and shape... just need to adjust some details in the relative positions of each element...
The blade was forged from a pile of old rasps. The hilt still requires a lot of finish and detail work so I will post a separate thread when it's further along. I'm also not finished with the blade.. indeed it isn't even heat treated in this picture...

Brilliant work, is the ribbon hilt cut and dished from one sheet, or did you weld elements of it? The blade is amazing work too, as is the Viking hilt. Would love to see more shots of the progression.Stephen Wheatley
