My Guangzhou student 粥菜 had been traveling around China and practicing with various swordsmanship groups, including Guangzhou short weapon sparring club, Shenzhen 鬥戰勝會, Changdao 鬥陣番 and HEMA, Beijing Toyama Ryu and Tiger Knights club, etc. He came to Hong Kong to spar with me once more so I can see his progress.

Nice block at 0:37, surprised there wasn't any follow through from either fighter

Thanks for watching. Happy It was a very heavy hit. I put body weight in and it knocked him back a few steps. His tip was threatening me though in the och guard, so I couldn't go in more, while he was stunned by the impact. So I retracted while he was recovering from the stun.

You were in admittedly an awkward position; theoretically, you might have been able to wind to bring the point online, even hanging it if you need to, but that's much easier said than done in the heat of the moment.

If your student wants to hide around in Pflug and play safe from there, I would start throwing Schielhauen. Alternatively, you might remain in Pflug and counter-thrust against his point; if he pulls up to strike or moves down as he did in the video, use nachreisen and hit him first. Don't let him think that he can just hold his point in front of him to keep himself safe and get away with it. Wink
