Hello again.
I'm working on a wooden buckler. I perhaps inadvisably made the cutout for the boss already. The cutout is 6 inches across; if that's too big, I'll have to buy more planks and start over. The wood is a half inch thick, and the 3/4-inch handle will be nailed directly to the back (not sunken into the cutout but not deliberately protruding either).
It probably won't see any use but I'd like it to be sturdy enough for fighting, if not necessarily constant sparring. Also not too heavy, under a pound if possible, but if not, I'll go with what's available.
Thank you.

Have you checked out Viking Shield? https://www.viking-shield.com/armor/shield-bosses/ They have a selection of bosses that might fit your needs, as well as other shield making materials like rivets and rawhide strips.[/url]

Thank you. Some of those look pretty good for what I had in mind.
I am looking for recommendations from experience as well, if possible.

It's kind of a fantasy piece. Basically a scaled-down Migration or Viking shield, but I'd be fine with a generic domed boss.

I always use Jason Green - Wieland Forge for early medieval commissions.:-
