from my point of view people over generalize with how their skill is all the same as if they were all faceless trained robot/men
cyrborg things that have a specific os to give each one of them on one side the same level of skill, then one of them is much more skilled than the other
Ok so i admit the armament and armor aguments are pretty convincing since it really has the evidence to back it up
from my point of view they were all just men who were just as prone to running as you or i in the heat of battle. pretty much no amount of training in a safe area could fix or change this.
also even if you take modern practitioners to fight it out then all that tells us is that one was more experienced or skilled as a whole, same reason if we were time travelers and brought them to the future to fight that would still just tell us that one was more experienced or whatever than the other and nothing else.
who else thinks this? i thought up of this cause this tended to be my argument in the knight/samurai/mongolian/rifleman/me/you/god/templar/han/roman fight outs on youtube and even on some other sites that i wont specify for fear of being banned
add in whatever you want to the list
smiley face 123? no? lol yeah well im here cause i like...swords and weapons and stuff obv

Also tired of Katana vs. European sword arguments. Tired of it because I don't believe they ever met and you cannot really test it out. There were some 17th C. sailors shipwrecked on Japanese shores, but these weren't knights. It is a whole different culture, arms and armor and way of fighting. Hypothetical "battles" between the two are just that: hypothetical. It reminds me of the alternative versions of history. You are in the realm of speculation that cannot be verified. I hope I never see another samurai vs. knight article ever again. Groan !

To answer your question as simply as possible: EVERYONE is tired of the "which warrior is best" debate.

Facts:
1. Ninjas are mammals.
2. Ninjas fight ALL the time.
3. The purpose of the ninja is to flip out and kill people.

Both the European knight and the samurai lost their battlefield supremacy to pike and musket armies. Which says something about the importance of administration, logistics, and economics. The classic "knight vs samurai" isn't particularly relevant to battlefield outcomes, even hypothetical ones. Unless they're very artificial, like 100 knights vs 100 samurai, with no other supporting forces. But that's pretty silly, since knights and samurai weren't designed to operate like that, but as parts of complete military systems.

I hate this vs that arguments because its all about stereotypes and hype that run roughshod over more interesting real history. apparently the japanese had communities through out south east asia in the 16th/17thC ( look up nihonmachi on wikipedia ). and the Portuguese were exploring and colonising as far south as East Timor by 1515, so we have both european mercenaries and japanese samurai and ronin working as soldiers and mercenaries on the same islands (apparently alongside local elephant cavalry in some cases! ) but you never hear about these things in the english speaking world only KNIGHT VS samurai KNIGHT VS samurai screamed from ever corner of the internet. The irony is that the ignored history of places like Siam most likely hold the closest thing you could get to the
answers of these stupid arguments

Knights vs. samurai? I'm gonna go with the Jedi- knights. They had those lightsaber things, which can cut through anything, just like a katana, but you don't have to worry about edge damage or edge alignment, because lightsabers don't exactly have an edge. Also, a Jedi can strangle someone from afar. Distance is your friend!
And it happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Can't get more "ancient warrior" than that!

I do get this all the time. A demo, with some examples of medieval European swords laid out. 'Not as good as a katana' says mop. Thats like comparing a Trabant with a Subaru says I. Kind of the same, but very different in other respects. Will get you from A to B but other than that there are so many differences the comparison is pretty pointless.
