Keep up the good work Lance!

Sharpening is so fun, very hard to get started with it, but once you start to understand it, you just crave more and more.

You should try a high single bevel sharpening on a rather thick sword, those are very fun for cutting.

Btw why no belt grinder? Takes far less time and the convex edge is ultra durable, i cut a lot of hard targets like pig and thick newspaper rolls multiple times a week and if i really left one of my edges to blunt out i would not have to sharpen before an entire year.

Thanks for your kind words. Space limitation is the problem. Hong Kong has the top land price in the world and I live in a very small place compare to you guys. Plus I do my works usually midnight, so noise is another problem. :P

Hey, when are you updating your test cut ranking post? Big Grin

In all honesty i'm too lazy to write it again, i had and it bugged ( was dumb and did not save ), and now i can't be bothered, i will certainly write it again at some point, and when i do i will just do it all at once, but for now no.
Sorry to disappoint you guys, i'm sure it was like crack to many of you Big Grin the reason i started writing it was i figured it would be interesting to a great many people, which is turned out to be.

Your students seems to be getting really good at cutting clean! Wink
So it's a combination of sharpening to the right edge geometry and your students getting better.

Or was it just your "tampering with the blades", that was needed for their final breakthrough?

It's in the skill, though only the right tools allow the skill to be performed. The katana he used was a very cheap one made with mid carbon steel. You may say that it's a waster. Wink I used to use it for sharp sword simulated sparring in very slow speed, just to figure out how sharp edge would act in certain techniques. Then one day when I had no sword to sharpen, I repaired it and gave it the streamline edge I now do.

Keith is one of the highest level among the students. He performed very well with the short power. Some of my other students did not do that well despite having the right tools. hahah.... so the skill still matters a lot.

Testing out a new technique with the katana I sharpened for a customer, then used my own sword to test the technique again.
