Hi folks,

I have a couple of things available that represent some pretty cool ways of carrying things. The first a is a Fur Trade era trade hawk forged from 19th century wrought iron anchor chain and high carbon bit welded all the way back to the eye. The haft is hand split figured maple from my firewood pile. It has a leather baldric based on an actual piece worn by the English indian agent Alexander Mackenzie. This is a positively delightful way to carry this hawk. This was made by Jai Mather at Thyrthweorc https://www.facebook.com/Thyrthweorc?fref=ts

Next is a 3" blade composite pattern welded puukko that smacks of Anglo-Saxon designs.. but recalls (to me) something that could very well have been worn by Sam Gamgee. It has a fossil mammoth ivory (oliphaunt) spacer and Castello boxwood grip. The grip has Germanic dot ring decoration. The sheath is center-seam style and is carried by a matching spoon that also serves as a belt 'stopper', or netsuke if you will. This can serve to hold the sheath through a belt, belt loop or pack strap. Another delightful way to carry.

Also.. just a head's up that this may be available soon... but I've started a damascus Scottish dirk based on the 'early dirk' style. It will have Virginia-sourced boxwood (Buxus sp.) grip with traditional celtic knot carving. Please inquire if you would like updates on it's progress or would like to become it's patron. The blade in the photo is full thickness from the forge and has a test-etch. I will be doing the final grinding and heat treating today.

Feels like going back in time, though.
And, by the way, is the spoon made from the same material as the puukko hilt (mammoth ivory)?

Hi...

There is only the mammoth bolster/spacer on the knife.. the rest of the handle is Castello boxwood (not true boxwood which is poisonous). So the spoon is also made from Castello boxwood.

Scott I really like your aesthetic and the materials you use. All the works you've posted have really caught my eye. The grain in the tomahawk head is just great. Love the baldric. Maybe next time I can move a little faster! Someone else is a very happy customer.
