Hello All,
Today I bought what I believe to be a WW 1 US bayonet and scabbard. The blade measures 14 5/16 in length and there is a "US" mark on the hilt with the Ordnance shell and flame marking. There is also what I believe is an eagle's head with the number "8" beneath it.
I paid 90 euros in a street antique show in Paris.
Can someone enlighten me about what type of bayonet this is? I can't seem to find anything on the internet.
Any help is appreciated.

Jon,
Am not a bayonet expert by any stretch, but the markings appear to be those of Remington (eagle's head). The hilt is a real stumper. Thought at first it might for a Krag, predecessor to the Springfield '03, but not so. Please post anything information/photos you do find.

I would think a late 1890s Remington rolling block ("new model") or Remington Lee magazine rifle but the Lee bayonets much more trimmed down in the guard. The rolling block variations across the world share similarities to this one.

It's not a US Bayonet, from WWI. The two US bayonets from WWI are the M1905 and the M1917. The guard remotely resembles that of the bayonet designed for the Canadian Ross Rifle. Some of these were acquired by the US but none saw use. Besides, the rest of the knife looks nothing like the Ross. The US Ordnance "flaming bomb" marking is all wrong and badly applied. If it was advertised as a US bayonet I think you bought a forgery, or at least something from the pre-WWI era. The markings still make me nervous though. If it's a bayonet made for a US rifle, I'd say it's most likely made by another country for use on their US produced rifle, not uncommon.
