A&A In the Movies this Friday

We got a call back in 2012 about doing some pieces for a film. These are the type of jobs that can often never come to fruition but after working with some great guys in the prop end of the project and going back and forth with some samples and ideas we made several items for their use.

This is the kind of job where you never know how it will come out and what kind of play on screen your items will get. We have done jobs that have never made it to release and others where our items do not seem to make it through the edit. But in this case it seems we have some nice time on screen and even get some main character use.

At one point we did not think we would ever see this film make it through to the end as the post production got snarled in some hollywood stuff but its fun to see it finally make it and we hope some of our fans will like seeing our items.

The show opens Friday! so if you go see it watch for these pieces when you view the movie.

I wonder what Jeff Bridges will be carrying?

It's kind of ironic that this fantasy movie will have more historically accurate weapons than most historical dramas. Happy

My thoughts exactly, JD ... and now a dilemma: I can't stand fantasy as a genre, but seeing the Erbach in the trailer made me wonder whether I might end up subjecting myself to it just to see historically-accurate weapons on screen! Eek!

Just a little while ago, after coming out of The Hobbit: BoFA (which seriously could have used someone asking "Umm... how is THIS supposed to work?" on some of their props), I saw a poster for this movie, and spent a good 5 minutes just staring at it. Mainly because I couldn't believe that someone had gotten an actual sword into what looked like a boilerplate fantasy movie.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing this film. Expectations are not that high which means it might just be an enjoyable ride. So much the better that some for real real nice toys are in it.

I just told my wife that the Italian Bill I have was in a movie, hence, it's probably worth a bunch of money now. Collectible. She seemed skeptical about my investment strategy. Once she sees the movie, I'm sure she'll come around to my way of thinking. Big Grin

I have to admit I'm looking forward to this! It looks like it borrows aspects from Tolkien's high fantasy school of thought (that good fantasy has to be grounded in the real world/real legends/history) and the more outlandish sword and sorcery stuff like Conan. If the trailer's anything to go by, I think it'll be well worth watching. And it's awesome that A&A got to do weapons for it!

You know, I've been interested in this movie ever since learning that A&A was making some of the major weapons - I even had to point out the Schloss on the theater poster to my father when we were walking out of the last film we saw as a family. It's a sword I've been wondering about ever since my last commission; my commission was originally to use the hardware from the S-E, but that would have gone over-budget. Needless to say, I might have to get a ticket just to see the sword in action!

Yep, Its rare i see a fantasy trailer and think I'll go and see it. It looks tongue in cheek and good fun but also well made. I'm not going to see a documentary after all. Unlike Ironclad which went on about how accurate etc and clearly wasn't. Plus they forgot basic film making at the start. I work in the film/tv world a fair bit so I know all about the 'it must be accurate!' cries from producers and directors.

Looking great Craig, I shall scrutinise each frame. Spent 3 weeks on one production in the mud and rain and cold. What appeared? My hand, less than a second.

I can clearly remember seeing the trailer and thinking: "oh wow, since when is hollyweird making films with swords that actually make sense?" I was almost hypnotized, go figure.

So has anyone here at myArmoury.com watched the movie yet? It's playing locally, but I will need a babysitter for two munchkins...My wife would go with me, she's game. Of course, we haven't been to a movie theater in about two or three years.

Friend watched it and said not as bad as its being made out to be but also not that good. Told me to go at budget theater with low expectations and I'll enjoy it. Said if I spend extra to go to a super fancy first run theater I'll probably enjoy it less. So whatever conclusion that gives...

Gandalf, a hairless Wookie and a Vampira costume lend to something for everyone. I'll not post any more spoilers aside to say Olivia Williams is aging well but look at a dvd release by summer. It is still up there in box office ratings. Definitely a popcorn movie with a few chuckles.

I like the brown grips. Lots of other weapons in the movie.

I saw it, and enjoyed it. It's not great, but I was not upset by anything in particular. The monsters were cool, the costumes were(IMO) awesome, and it was really refreshing not to see the heroes dueling with idiotically designed fantasy swords.
