Here's a website for a new Crusades era movie due out in may.

Big Grin

Well, on one hand we have The Duelist, and on the other we have Gladiator. I don't think we can go wrong here. Cool
I'm game to watch this one in theatres.

Big "man swords" and lots of maille. You can't go wrong with that.

The nonstop scene-jumping in the trailer is kind of an eyesore, but the movie definitely looks like one to start counting down to.

Man, life must be great for Orlando Bloom. On the LOTR DVDs, they mention that they literally plucked him out of acting school to play Legolas, and look at all the great movies he's been in since.

Butted maille though. Or is it dangerous to mention that? Wink

LOL! Bad boy, bad boy! No doughnut!

But anything with lots of maille and cool swords ought to be worth watching, and the girls will go to see Orlando Bloom anyway. Everyone will be happy!

I'll have you know I vastly prefer maille and cool swords to Orlando Bloom.

Alina;

My wife would have smacked me for that one too, so you are fully justified! I'll rephrase it to "Girly-girls and their ilk will like it just for Orlando Bloom, and the rest of us can enjoy it for the maille and cool swords."

More Better, I hope! Big Grin

Cheers!

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Parts of the trailer made me go neat!

Other parts made me groan.

Guess that's the way of things though. Worried

That was my reaction too. But I felt the same way about Gladiator yet I enjoyed it very much. Same thing with Troy. I've just learned not to take these things so seriously. It's all just Hollywood escapism in the end. As long as the A&A work and the production values are good I'm generally happy.

I'm actually suprised that they're doing a crusades era movie given the current political climate. Unless they try to turn it into some kind of parable to the current situation, which is more than likely.

It's good to see Liam Neeson in another "period" film as well .

Looks promising! Scott's penchant for banners is obvious... Lots of CGI, but better that than ill-equipped extras bumbling about. Good to see Jeremy Irons in a major movie again - I guess he wants to forget "Dungeons & Dragons". Orlando Bloom is indeed on a roll, and considering that he broke his back just a year before filming LOTR, he should be doubly happy.

Looks like an ok film, I'm not into religious based films so hopefully the name doesnt reflect the content... Worried

I couldn't view the trailer. But it seems this movie must be about the battle of Hattin and the fall of the Crusader kindom of Jerusalem.

I notice that Alexander Siddig, who played the doctor in Star Trek Deep Space Nine is a cast member.

Why does Orlando bloom continue to be cast in sword movies? I wonder if he will show up in the Baz Luhrman Alexander movie?

Orlando has one tone of voice and what I call a poor acting ability...he cant convey emotion well, its always blank faced and dead in tone. They keep him cause the girls go nuts over him and it sells to that niche then...I should know, my GF has a wall dedicated to him Confused Fact is a sword movie isnt that appealing to all women, to get more revenue they cast teen heart throbs like Orlando.

I am impressed with what I see, but the fact is the story is of concern with me...good A&A is always a plus, but I can deal with mediocre weapons and armor as long as the film has a thick rich plot and good character developement.

I just hope that the film does not contradict real historical events. I understand that Ridley Scott's "Blackhawk Down", on the one hand, was about as accurate a portrayal of the real events as you can expect from Hollywood. On the other hand, while I found "Gladiator" to be entertaining, its serious historic flaws really bothered me (the big one being Commodus surviving as emperor for apparently only a few months, rather than a disastrous 13 years).

I just read the following news article: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xm...world.html

I'm sooooooo sick of the anti-Catholic, anti-crusades propaganda that has been perpetuated by both Hollywood and historians. This news article made me pleased that modern historians at least can take a semi-reasonable stand on the crusades for a change.

I'm perfectly willing to let Scott abuse history as long as the movie is well done and entertaining. I'm just curious how all this is going to be distorted so that the muslims need defending as it says in the article Alina linked to. Historically didn't Saladin pretty much show up and Orlando's charater handle the negotiations for surrender of the city?
