Sparring with wife at the corridor, where she wielded a spear. |
Very entertaining and very educational and impressive.
I guess your wife is very very good with the spear as you seem to be the only one using or needing protective equipment.
So, you wanted to go out and have a beer and your wife said you could only go if you could get past her and her spear
( Well, mostly joking ..... )
I find that from this camera angle it's easier to understand and see who may have won the bouts ? Maybe it's because it reproduces the view one has when one is sparring/duelling ? And from the side angles one can get fooled by perspective and not be as sure about who got to whom first !
Maybe you should shoot more of your videos from this angle ?
On the technical side I think I see your wife controlling the engagement distance very well, as well as lengthening and shortening the spear making it difficult to get past the spear head.
There may be at least be one occasion where I think she could have used the butt end of the spear by reversing it when you got past her point and where closing in.
I think this does show two things: Firstly that the spear has an inherent advantage over the sword if one has even minimal skill with the spear over a better sword fighter, but against a competent spear user the swordsman is in serious trouble, and your wife seems very good with the spear.
Oh, and you both did seem to be having a lot of fun.
You can easily give up your freedom. You have to fight hard to get it back!

Hello! Thanks for watching. My wife has learned spear for 5 lessons only. She has talent in it though.
There was no choice for video angle since it's the corridor. But yes, it represents the "first person view" pretty well indeed. No wonder so many video games take this perspective for the player to view the character.
Yes, she wanted to butt me with the spear's end but the ceiling blocked her attempt. We'll spar again on rooftop when there was no raining, and see how this will affect our performance. I can do more, but so does she. It'll be interesting to see.
Thanks again.
