I would start with the Brigade of the American Revolution, and start chasing down their links. If your friend wants top-drawer uniforms and such, these guys are the ones to look to:

However, G Gedney Godwin, the Sutler of Mt. Misery, carries a lot of cool stuff including buttons and accessories that might be needed as well:

And there is also James Townsend and Company, which retails a lot of clothing and other things:

Good luck to your friend in his search!

I agree with Gordon on G Gedney Godwin. They are nice folks to deal with, and much of what they offer is very accurate and of good quality.

Townsend is a little less accurate and has less selection -- especially if your looking for military clothing. Still, their items are pretty well made.

Lately, I have been dealing with C & D Jarnagin http://www.jarnaginco.com/. I have not been disappointed in anything they have made for me. I want to order a civilian coat and weskit from them this winter. Again, good folks to deal with.

May want to try this link as well

Most of the vendors already listed can be found here as well as many others plus links to re-enacting
groups.

Funny, I almost put Jarnigan in the original list, but some of their stuff at least used to be less than great. But their leather stuff is now top notch in all of the periods I've looked at. I'm happy to spend money there for their leather gear anytime. Since they've added Rev War and F&I War stuff to their line up, it's all certainly worth looking in to.
