Looking forward to see the finished scabbard with the tooling. I love that creature, and I've done at least 4 take on that very same beast, and I'm not getting tired of it Happy

Fitting the internal sheath. I'll put only a few stitches in the seam and use this one to create a new pattern for the external sheath.

What you see here is the rough side of the leather, with horizontal marks left by the tape I used to hold it together during drying. The black marks are from pressing the wet leather with a marker to flatten the edges. I pressed the piece between boards overnight. I formed the wet leather around the blade (with blade wrapped in plastic, of course).

I should note, also, that we're looking at the front of the dagger, with the internal sheath on backwards. The seam of the internal sheath will be on this side. The seam of the external sheath will be on the back.

It's all over but the shoutin'. I still have some minor refinement to do in a few places just to make things a bit neater. I'll make a lace for suspension. Otherwise, the sheath is finished. I'll get good shots of the entire finished project before it leaves me (it's a gift).

I'm pleased with the sheath and the overall project. There are some minor things I'd do differently, but not many. My stitching, in particular, needs work. I think it's not bad for my second outing in sheath making and my first in this kind of tooling. Mainly, I just need more practice.

Done! The lace is probably a bit shorter than I'd want it if the piece was meant to be worn. Most likely, It'll sit on a shelf so I don't mind if there's not a mile of lace for the owner to worry about.

I'm pleased with it.

Thanks for the help and encouragement, folks! I probably won't venture into this early period again, but it offered vsluable lessons.

It's a good feeling, at the end of a project, to clear the bench, tack up new sketches, photos and artwork in preparation for the next "class". I'm heading back to the early 16th c. this fall.

That turned out really well! I don't know how you DIYers do it, I am so inept artistically that I think it is better for me to stay far far away from attempting anything like this, or making a scabbard or shield, whatever.

But it is always really neat to see these threads!
