Hello, I am wanting to wrap or cord re-wrap my Arms and Armour Fechterspiel's grip, mostly because I like cord wrap better and I'd like to make the grip slightly slender.

So how does one set about doing this?
What would be a good readily available cord for such?
Epoxies?
etc.

If anyone has some 'how to' links that would be grand.

Cheers Jim.

Joel's reference is excellent, it's what I used when I replaced the grip on a Del Tin sword.

I used a chamois cloth and the result was excellent. And it was cheap. I skived all 4 edges of the chamois, and folded the top and bottom over 1/8" to get a nice edge where the wrap abuts against the cross guard and pommel.

I used wood glue to bond the chamois to the wood grip core.

The tighter you wrap the cord around the leather, the more defined the cord wrap will look when you're done.

I used Renaissance Wax on the wrap when I was done, which darkened the leather at first, but when the wax dried the original color came back. If you have a need for a specific color when the job is completed, then would test the leather, dye and wax to make sure the end result is satisfactory before you go through all of the trouble of replacing the wrap.

Here's my re-wrap. It is worthwhile to spent the time to properly skive the edge of the leather to get a seamless wrap. The seam on my grip is on the side of the grip, facing the viewer, but you can't even see the seam because the edge was carefully skived.

Yes it is a good guide, but I am after Cord wrapped, not leather, like what Albion have on the Maestro line swords, as for the Fechterspiel once the leather has warmed up (from handling) it just feels horrid!
So I am looking to just use cord.
Cheers.

WalMart....hemp cord....SuperGlue......Wrap it tight and glue often. You might want to do this outdoors. The fumes are awful. When you are done, and it has set, spray it with ladies hair spray and set it alight with a match or lighter. This will burn off any 'fuzzies' and give it a very unique look. Anyway, that's what I've done on some past projects. Big Grin ...McM
